Difference between a Portable Building and a Temporary Building

What are the actual differences between temporary buildings and portable buildings? Are there any, or is it just marketing talk and labelling the same structure with difference names to suit different audiences and needs? The latter is certainly true in some case. Both types of buildings share very similar attributes and as such both are referred to with both names. Herein lies the confusion! So, let's try and shed some light on it.

Temporary buildings and portable buildings are both very easy to transport and install. The primary feature of a temporary building however is its easy and fast installation process; which in turns makes it very easy to fulfil temporary requirements; hence the name.

The build process doesn't need any foundations as buildings can be built directly onto existing hard ground. Typically these buildings are used for industrial uses as they are large clean span structures suitable for warehousing, storage, workshop or loading areas. They are also however used as temporary supermarkets, garden centres and fire stations to name but a few alternative functions.

With industry and manufacturing making the most use of them however it is these sectors that can react quickly to unforeseen growth and the need for more space that is quick and easy. In fact, temporary buildings literally give them the ability to expand and contract their operational space in line with business and market demands.

The frame of these buildings is manufactured, transported and built in sections with the wall and roof cladding adding thereafter. Because they are so easy to transport though they can and are often referred to as portable buildings or re-locatable buildings'.

These buildings are completed in the factory so they can literally be transported whole and dropped into place on site. They do need foundations laying so don't provide the same fast response as an industrial temporary building.

That said though they are used for very different purposes like offices or classrooms. These buildings can be hired as well as purchased so can legitimately be classed as a temporary building as well.

What both these structures benefit from however is the off-site construction. And, just to confuse matters even more they could both be also classed as prefabricated buildings because of this!

Manufacturing a building off-site saves in both time and costs. You could say half the time because the building will be manufactured while the site work or other project work is being carried out simultaneously. And, in the factory environment, systems, procedures and controls can be kept tight and efficient keeping waste, mistakes and delay to a minimum. Not only will this save again on time, but it will keep costs within budget. With the building being delivered practically built, there is minimum disruption to site and daily operations.

So, there are differences between temporary and portable buildings. It may be more accurate to say however that there are a range of different prefabricated buildings available, both offering multiple benefits to multiple businesses.

How modular buildings can impact academic success?

Let me ask you a question. Where do children spend most of their productive time? Is it at home or at school? Schools are not just buildings where your child goes and comes back with a bag full of work. It is a platform which gives these budding stars a kick to excel in their lives and touch the sky. Imagine, what will kids do in a dungeon-like, claustrophobic environment , or one that doesn’t have access to adequate sunshine? Don’t you think it would affect their learning capabilities and focus during class? To prevent this, modular buildings are a sure solution for schools that can have a considerable impact on your childrens’ academic success. Here are a few ways how: ●        Low cost and additional space: Can you afford to keep kids glued to the table and chair for 8 hours at a stretch? It would be grossly unfair to ask for this of them, and even unhealthy. Let them roam around on the campus, swap classrooms and explore the school. This is poss...

Here’s why healthcare needs modular construction

The increasing popularity of modular construction in the healthcare field is quite evident after many top medical institutions acknowledged the same in recent times. The modular units get built within a temporary manufacturing unit established near to the original construction site. Once the construction gets completed it will be delivered and installed on the site to meet up with the pre-derived hospital project. Keep reading as we list out some valid facts that will let you understand the need for the healthcare industry to incorporate modular buildings into their upcoming establishing projects. Cost-effective: As the overall process behind modular construction gets completed in a short span, the kind of cost involved in acquiring them shall be minimal as well. Starting from the on-site access cost to the labor cost, maximum construction costs can be reduced. If at all a healthcare facility has been built following the modular construction method, they shall get to function at th...

Is modular construction cheaper than traditional construction?

If you were told that construction is no longer burdensome and taxing will you buy the statement? The obvious answer would be, “It is not possible”. The reason is that we have seen construction as an on-going process which takes ages to compete and take a lot of time and resources. But with tremendous developments and advancements happening in the field of construction, the conventional methods have now given way to modular construction, and this has brought oodles of ease, durability and convenience for those who who want to get the construction done quickly and effectively. What is modular construction? Modular construction is the construction process in which modules are constructed in the manufacturing facility, which is offsite. These modules are then reassembled at the construction site to complete the look. The thought that modular construction means a compromise on quality and durability would be grossly unfair because the same kind of material used in the conventional me...
